Hi all,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and took a few minutes to appreciate Dr Martin Luther King Jr for all he contributed to make our country so much better…he really was such an amazing person in a time where his approach, dedication, and determination to see everyone as equal was so important….and he did it in a way that made even his most hardened critics stop and know….everything he was trying to do was correct…I have always admired him so much…

Tomorrow, Thursday, I will be going to my first school presentation of the year…to Deer Park Elementary…I know it will be fun to be with the kids again as it is my favorite thing to do….tomorrow evening there is a launch, at 7:52 PM, EST…you can watch it live on the subject link or see the replay on Friday….also if you have a few minutes go to the link in the story below to share a short, cool video with the kids….

I try to include the news of students speaking with the astronauts on the ISS to encourage you to try…I participated in this and it is awesome, plus your school will get worldwide recognition…I also know there are many home schooled kids seeing this…wouldn’t it be great to get home schooled kids involved too….

it is getting late and I still have to prepare for tomorrow so will close for now...wishing you all a wonderful day…. we have to always remember to do our best, enjoy everything we do, live in the present, be appreciative of the good in our lives, make each day special, smile & have fun! Gabe

NASA Briefing Thursday Will Preview Upcoming US Spacewalks
American and Japanese astronauts aboard the International Space Station <http://www.nasa.gov/station> will embark on a pair of spacewalks Jan. 23 and 29 to service the station’s robotic arm. Experts from NASA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will preview this work in a briefing at 2 p.m. EST Thursday, Jan. 18, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Live coverage of the briefing and spacewalks will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website <https://www.nasa.gov/live>.

Students at Framingham State University (FSU) in Massachusetts will speak with astronauts living, working, and doing research aboard the International Space Station <https://www.nasa.gov/station> at 12:15 p.m. EST Friday, Jan. 19. The 20-minute, Earth-to-space call will air live on NASA Television and the agency’s website <http://www.nasa.gov/live>.

Students will make the call to Expedition 54 astronauts Joe Acaba <https://www.nasa.gov/astronauts/biographies/joseph-m-acaba>, Scott Tingle <https://www.nasa.gov/astronauts/biographies/scott-d-tingle>, of NASA, and Norishige Kanai <http://iss.jaxa.jp/en/astro/biographies/kanai/index.html>, of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), aboard the space station, posing questions about life aboard the space station, NASA’s deep space exploration plans, and doing science in space.
Acaba arrived at the station Sept. 12 on his third space mission, and is scheduled to return to Earth in February. Tingle and Kanai arrived Dec. 19 and are scheduled to return to Earth in June.

FSU is the alma mater of Christa McAuliffe, a payload specialist on space shuttle Challenger’s STS 51-L <https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/archives/sts-51L.html>, which was lost during launch in 1986. McAuliffe was going to be the world’s first teacher in space, and FSU is the home of the McAuliffe Center, one of Challenger Center’s <http://www.challenger.org/> more than 40 learning centers. The McAuliffe Center received more than 200 questions from 83 students from a wide range of majors at FSU, and chose 25 questions to be asked during the downlink. Some 250 students are expected to attend.

Media interested in attending the event should contact Lisa Vernal via email at lvernal at challenger.org <mailto:lvernal at challenger.org> or phone at 412-337-3880. The event will take place at the McCarthy Center Forum at Framingham State University 93 State Street, Framingham.
Linking students directly to astronauts aboard the space station provides unique, authentic experiences designed to enhance student learning, performance and interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This in-flight education downlink is an integral component of NASA’s Year of Education on Station, which provides extensive space station-related resources and opportunities to students and educators.
