<html class=""><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class="" dir="auto"><span style="font-size: 17px;" class="">Good evening/morning all,</span><div class=""><span style="font-size: 17px;" class=""> It is night here but morning by the time most of you see this….I'm a few miles from the Cape, awaiting the launch of an Atlas V rocket to the space station…what an amazing place to live….night launches are always special….I know so many are out of school but also so many multiple Easter/Spring breaks and times seem to vary from 8 days to 2 weeks….so will at least write once a week until everyone is back on schedule…I hope you were able to share the launch of the Russian Rocket and docking on the ISS, it was a wonderful launch…remember you can always go back to see a replay of the launch and docking on the NASA site….I actually an watching the countdown and now 4 minutes to go…they just got the go from all the system engineer involved in the countdown….I think the kids would really enjoy this…almost time….the sky is crystal clear, the moon super bright, stars are visible everywhere, perfect night for a launch….10, 9, 8,7,6, 5, 4, 3 ,2 , 1…blast off!!!! I always have the kids do this during launch movies I show and when you are on the Space Center the PA system always counts down…a perfect launch…….there are a couple of things I will try to bring up over the break so I may send a reminder each week to be sure everyone sees it….first, every year there is an </span><span style="font-size: 17px; This result is the first time that Jupiter’s auroras have been studied in X-ray light when a giant solar storm arrived at the planet.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 15px; -webkit-font-smoothing: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; font-weight: normal;" class="">The Sun constantly ejects streams of particles intoes, giant storms, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), erupt and the winds become much stronger. These events compress Jupiter’s magnetosphere, the region of space controlled by Jupiter’s magnetic field, shifting its boundary with the solar wind inward by more than a million miles. This new study found that the interaction at the boundary triggers the X-rays in Jupiter’s auroras, which cover an area bigger than the surface of the Earth.</p><p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 15px; -webkit-font-smoothing: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; font-weight: normal;" class="">These composite images show Jupiter and its aurora. The impact of the CME on Jupiter’s aurora was tracked by monitoring the X-rays emitted during two 11-hour observations. The scientists used that data to pinpoint the source of the X-ray activity and identify areas to investigate further at different time points.
