Hi all,
I can’t believe how long it has been since I’ve sent a letter…really crazy busy, life goes so fast…I am writing while on the plane from Orlando to Casablanca, Morocco. This visit was planned for June but complications with year end tests delayed until this week. It will be an amazing week but it does make a trip to Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Dubai more challenging…trying to sort out all the variables involving 7 countries in 7 weeks, factoring Visa Requirements, schools availability, schedules to the different countries, and schedules within each country is extremely time consuming…
The space program, especially space X, is sending launches every week…we had 4 scheduled in 4 days…they are all amazing…I volunteered to support the crew 7 mission to the ISS…it was one of the best I have seen since the shuttle…I did miss Artemis 1, hopefully I’ll be here for the next Artemis…it was extra special because I had a good buddy viisting from Brazil to see the launch, an invitation from NASA…I’m so very happy he saw this amazing event…the night launches are spectacular…especially when the booster lands back on KSC…most everyone has seen pictures and many have had rides in my muscle car, 70 Torino Convertible…a component of the engine failed, sending metal shaving though the engine…essentially destroying everything…a week before I left…my goal was to get the engine out and to a machine shop before I left, which I managed to do…hopefully, whatever can be salvage, the engine only has got 16,000 kilometers (10,000 miles)…it should not have failed but this is life…could be so much worse…I will be in Morocco for 8 days, back for 5, then heading to South Asia for 5 weeks…hopefully, everything will be done, I can complete the assembly, and have it driving by November….I am really looking forward to Morocco…I was invited by a very good friend, Fatima, Miss Morocco 2011…Fatima conducts beauty pageants to raise money to help kids in orphanages…so kind, like so many of you….if any would like to follow along to the different countries and events I post pictures from every event on Facebook, Gabe Gabrielle…
Just announced flight delayed 2 hours from NY…my connection time in Paris was 2 hours and not optimistic about the 2 hours as they keep extending it…flying has really become a huge uncertainty…with many opportunities to miss connections…I have to wait it out and see where it goes…the worst is there are hundreds and hundreds of kids waiting and I may not get to see them…have to keep it in perspective and always be thankful…
We have to stay positive and always be thankful… remembering to do our best, enjoy everything we do, believe in ourselves, and let those we care about most know (I always say this, we all need to take it to heart…hugs and smiles. STAY SAFE, TAKE CARE, Love ya, Gabe

A Gateway to the Moon
<https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/thumbnails/image/gateway_summer_req_images_rev2_11orig.png>
Gateway's <https://www.nasa.gov/gateway/overview> International Habitat (I-Hab) module, provided by the European Space Agency (ESA), is the focus of this rendered image from Aug. 18, 2023. I-Hab is one of two of the space station's habitation modules along with HALO, the Habitation and Logistics Outpost. Astronauts will live, conduct research, and prepare for lunar surface missions inside the two living quarters.
I-Hab will also house life support systems and camera equipment that will enhance Gateway’s scientific research capabilities. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s planned contributions include I-HAB’s environmental control and life support system, batteries, thermal control, and imagery components. They will be integrated into the module by ESA prior to launch.
Gateway will be humanity’s first space station in lunar orbit to support NASA’s deep space exploration plans, along with the Space Launch System <https://www.nasa.gov/exploration/systems/sls/index.html>rocket, Orion <https://www.nasa.gov/exploration/systems/orion/index.html> spacecraft, and the Human Landing System that will send astronauts to the Moon.

NASA has selected the geology team that will develop the surface science plan for the first crewed lunar landing mission in more than 50 years. NASA’s Artemis III mission <https://www.nasa.gov/specials/artemis/> will land astronauts, including the first woman to land on the Moon, near the lunar South Pole to advance scientific discovery and pave the way for long-term lunar exploration.
“Science is one of the pillars of Artemis,” said Dr. Nicky Fox, NASA Science Associate Administrator. “This team will be responsible for leading the geology planning for humanity’s first return to the lunar surface in more than 50 years, ensuring that we maximize the science return of Artemis and grow in our understanding of our nearest celestial neighbor.”
The Artemis III Geology Team, led by principal investigator Dr. Brett Denevi of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, will work with the agency to determine the mission’s geological science objectives and design the geology surface campaign that the Artemis astronauts will carry out on the Moon during this historic mission. These objectives will be defined in accordance with the established Artemis science priorities <https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-defines-science-priorities-for-first-crewed-artemis-landing-on-moon/>.
“Selecting this team marks an important step in our efforts to optimize the science return of Artemis III. This team of well-respected lunar scientists has demonstrated experience with science operations, sample analysis, and operational flexibility, all of which is critical for the successful incorporation of science during Artemis III,” said Dr. Joel Kearns, deputy associate administrator for exploration in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “With the establishment of the Artemis III Geology Team, we are ensuring that NASA will build a strong lunar science program.”
