Good morning all, I started this 2 weeks ago) (now 4 weeks ago)

I’m on a flight to Brazil to participate in an amazing program called Science Days…I got involved with Science Days about 6 years ago through an agency called Kennedy Space Center International Academy….this was formed through some very determined people who wanted to bring Science to the kids in Brazil…headed by a husband and wife team…Jefferson and Carla, their program brought science to the kids in many different areas of Brazil…they are Brazilian/Americans but their hearts are with the kids in Brazil who love science but have limited opportunities…the program is 2-3 days long… a science fair…exhibits are set up, games are formulated, many speakers are invited but this biggest part is hands on adventures for the kids…it is well runs and well organized…the kids love it…they are so excited, so happy, so full of enthusiasm…..as are Carla and Jeff…I am in awe of how much they do, how well they do it, and their genuine love for the kids…they have a team of Brazilians who support them and participate…we will be in 3 cities in 2 weeks, then I will venture on my own to 2 more cities for 7 days…I have said Norway is my second home, it opened so many doors for me and Brazil took my speaking career to a whole new level…it was so fitting my first trip after the pandemic was to Norway, the second to Brazil…I have been to 14 countries speaking at schools…it is uncanny how each, while I am there….is my favorite…I also fortunate, I have so many friends around the world…hopefully, I can get back to them all as international travel become less restrictive…

The war with Russia and the Ukraine…which is really not a war but a slaughter…so difficult to believe in 2022, this could not have been prevented…so much loss of life, so many lives ruined…families torn apart, so much suffering as millions flee their homes trying to stay alive and enjoy the freedom we take for granted….to me, it is so very, very sad… it will not end until Russia has taken everything it wants and Ukraine is no more…it will be endless torture, suffering and death to so many innocent people….

Interestingly, the space program continues to go forward…although it is affecting missions including the exploration of Mars…for the first time we have an American Astronaut and a Russian Cosmonaut openly criticizing each other over politics…these two have spent a year in space together…were thought to be great friends as a result but as always, politics is the route of all evil…from the early days of the space race, over 60 years ago…space exploration has stayed away from politics, moved forward in unity…but it seems this time will be different…we are fortunate to have Space X to take out astronauts to the Space Station as we were so dependent on Russia for many years…

The challenge for me magnified as 4 days before I left my 3 month old phone was stolen, 2 days later, my computer crashed…leaving me with almost nothing in the way of electronic information…instead of preparing for this trip, I spent the last 4 days trying to get a new phone, which I did but very little transferred, I can’t get any email, and the data I have been accumulating for years is seemingly unavailable…the data could not be linked to the new computer….so, it has definitely made things so much more challenging…this is life, filled with so many adventures….we have to stay positive and always be thankful…I constantly remind myself how fortunate I am, how millions would trade me “problems”, to keep it in psrspective, and to keep smiling, focusing on the new challenges…enjoying each minute of the day…

Two weeks later I am on a plane, the 3rd leg of a 10 hours flight (including layovers), then an almost 3 hour drive to the city of Cocoa Do Sol…the 2 weeks has been amazing, speaking with so many kids, multiple presentations, countless interface with thousand of hugs and pictures…it is very humbling…IT IS THE SHIRT, I always remind myself but I do know I have a very positive effect on the kids…it has been challenging in many ways…I got a very sore throat, laryngitis, cracked a rib, tore ligaments, went flying on a cobble stone road (destroying bran new pants and the skin beneath, and got a serious eye infection…have managed to keep all speaking engagements but certainly a challenge…still, all minor compared what others are dealing with…I stay thankful and remind myself to focus on the good in my life…others have it so much worse…

I am home now, recovering from all the little challenges along the way as well as getting sick again, once I got back to the US…all relatively minor, the visit to Brazil, all the cities, all the schools, all the events was wonderful…my sincere thanks to everyone involved as it takes a lot of effort by so many to make these go so well…

We have to remember to do our best, enjoy everything we do, believe in ourselves, and let those we care about most know (I always say this, we all need to take it to heart) …hugs & smiles... :-) :-) STAY SAFE, TAKE CARE, Love ya, Gabe

Many interesting things in the space program…especially the major event with the SLS rocket/Orion Capsule going to the launch pad…a major step in preparing for the first launch in support of the Artemis program…with women landing on the moon and astronauts going to the moon and Mars….

Ax-1 and SLS on the launch pads...

Axiom Mission 1 <https://blogs.nasa.gov/kennedy/2022/04/07/nasa-to-air-first-private-astronaut-mission-to-station/> (Ax-1) is in the foreground on Launch Pad 39A with NASA’s Artemis I <https://blogs.nasa.gov/artemis/2022/04/07/artemis-i-wet-dress-rehearsal-status/> in the background on Launch Pad 39B on April 6, 2022. This is the first time two totally different types of rockets and spacecraft designed to carry humans are on the sister pads at the same time—but it won’t be the last as NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida continues to grow as a multi-user spaceport to launch both government and commercial rockets.

Docking of SpaceX’s Dragon Endeavour spacecraft with the station occurred at 8:29 a.m. EDT (1229 GMT).
