Good morning all,
I hope you had a great weekend, I think some of you are still on spring break...last week I received a very special letter of thanks for helping out a teacher/friend with an award for a young student...it was beautifully written and sent to the head of the speakers' bureau as well as my company's president...I just wanted to thank Gina for doing that and it reminded me just how great you, as teachers, really are...I am your biggest fan and whenever anyone asks me what's the hardest job in the world, I always say teaching...you have the day to day responsibility of trying to take 20 different personalities, with different learning abilities as well as desire to learn, dictated teaching curriculums, annual state tests, administration, and probably worst, parents to deal with. A recent case of a teacher being abused in writing because of disciplining a student in what I thought was a very fair way by a mom who claimed her son would never do this so the teacher was making it all up just to be mean to her son. Come on! But that is what you all deal with and I am in awe of how you do it day in and day out, always having to maintain a fairness, mostly smiling :) and of course knowing you have helped so many...at any rate I want to say thank you, on behalf of some many who really appreciate what you do but may not take the time to tell you...I always remind people we all remember our favorite teacher and how they impact us for life...even when talking with many astronauts they will tie something that a teacher once told them to their success in the space program and of course this is true in every facet of life...so again, thank you all so much, it is always such a pleasure for me to spend time with the kids but I know I couldn't do it without your help and support.
This week is Judy's take off for her around the world flight promoting STEM (STEAM) and education in so many areas...I think a great opportunity for kids of any age to learn so much, in a fun way....She leaves on Thursday from Lakeland, Florida...I hope you will get the kids involved, if no time available maybe in the evening at home.... "MILESTONES" Steven Greenwald Design Aviation Collection Offered at SUN 'n FUN Silent Auction

APRIL 2, 2014, SUN 'n FUN Airshow, Lakeland Florida:The First Annual "Dinner With Legends" banquet benefiting the Aerospace Center For Excellence will be held during the 2014 SUN 'n FUN International Fly-In & Expo in Lakeland, FL. This event will be providing the opportunity for guests to participate in a silent auction augmenting the evening with fine art, collectibles, and autographed memorabilia from the Legends in attendance.

The latest and most significant artwork in the Steven Greenwald Design aviation collection titled "MILESTONES" by artist Frank Martin will be offered at the auction. SUN 'n FUN is channeling all proceeds from the auction of this painting to support Think Global Flight, an around the world flight of adventure promoting education and inspring students.

This 60 x 30 inch mixed media painting features science, technology, engineering and mathematics while chronicling the aircraft, flights and events of the past 110 years. With over 49 differing elements involved, it is the most complex and detailed work ever done by Frank Martin. In addition, the painting will be signed by the artist, Think Global Flight Captain Judy Rice, Navigator Fred Nauer, and Think Global Flight Ambassadors Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin, Voyager Pilot Dick Rutan, and Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee.

The artwork was inspired during a number of conversations between Frank and Judy during and after the Living Legends of Aviation celebration in Beverly Hills this past January. They spoke of the need for a return to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) education philosophy and Captain Judy Rice's upcoming around the world flight. Both Frank and Judy grew up when S.T.E.M. were taught throughout all levels of education whose lives have been positively shaped by this experience. SUN 'n FUN is a proud sponsor of Captain Rice and Think Global Flight in their shared mission to create "A Brighter Future Through Aviation."

NASA's Super Guppy, a wide-bodied cargo aircraft, landed at the Redstone Army Airfield near Huntsville, Ala. on March 26 with a special delivery: an innovative composite rocket fuel tank. The tank was manufactured at the Boeing Developmental Center in Tukwila, Wash. The tank will be unloaded from the Super Guppy, which has a hinged nose that opens and allows large cargos like the tank to be easily unloaded. After the tank is removed from the Super Guppy, it will be inspected and prepared for testing at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. The composite tank project is part of the Game Changing Development Program and NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate. NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity caught its own silhouette in this late-afternoon image taken by the rover's rear hazard avoidance camera. This camera is mounted low on the rover and has a wide-angle lens. The image was taken looking eastward shortly before sunset on the 3,609th Martian day, or sol, of Opportunity's work on Mars (March 20, 2014). The rover's shadow falls across a slope called the McClure-Beverlin Escarpment on the western rim of Endeavour Crater, where Opportunity is investigating rock layers for evidence about ancient environments. The scene includes a glimpse into the distance across the 14-mile-wide (22-kilometer-wide) crater. Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech
